The metamorphosis of this original worker’s cottage in Concord was profound. The family of 4 wanted a more modern home with open plan living/kitchen area and to expand their outdoor living space. Inside had been partly renovated; it was clean and tidy, but a rabbit warren of rooms and passages.
The rear of the house was cut off, with the pitched roof structure extended from the existing front through to the rear alfresco area. The old roof tiles, fascias and gutters were replaced with a modern Colorbond roof. At the same time, new insulation was fitted under the roof sheets and in the entire roof space, for better energy efficiency.
The property’s rear now features a large, bright open plan living area with combined lounge, dining and kitchen. Impressive high-pitched ceilings, with skylights, offer even more light and space, from the living area out to the generous new alfresco deck.
The existing bathroom received a makeover with current neutral and white tones, while a stylish new ensuite and walk-in robe was added to the master bedroom.
To finish, the entire building was rendered, giving the existing structure and extension a more cohesive look and this now modern home a fresh new lease on life.
