Heritage character received a modern makeover in this large Victorian terrace in Glebe. The owners’ vision was to upgrade their home to better suit their active social lifestyle – while preserving the property’s stunning period features. The client wanted a bigger kitchen and entertaining space that would become the hub of this home. So, a major internal load-bearing wall was removed to transform it into a large, ultra modern, open plan kitchen and entertaining area.
This space now flows seamlessly from the kitchen out to a renovated courtyard – with a new arch window/door unit that matches the existing doorways and floods the kitchen with even more light. Marble bench tops and white cabinetry enhance this brightness, and offer a stylish contrast to the rich wooden floorboards. The first balcony was upgraded to complement the inviting new courtyard, with new cladding, underlining and modern glass dressed with sleek black, motorised aluminium blinds.
The rear of the property was updated too, with a stylish new bathroom and laundry added internally. Outside, a large entertaining pavilion, with rear lane access, was constructed. This dual-purpose space functions as a double carport (with remote roller door) during the week and becomes an extended entertaining area flowing from the new courtyard, as needed.
