The owners of this Glebe terrace wanted to create more living space, as well as to modernise. So this extension and renovation project included the construction of a new garage with self-contained studio apartment above. Now, visiting family and friends have a place to stay, and the owners have the option to rent out the space in future. With a truly unique approach to design, the front of the house remains in its original heritage glory, but step up into the new galley kitchen, with its enormous clear glass splashback overlooking the lush courtyard, and move forward in time to a contemporary living space with clean lines set against sleek, neutral colours.
The new living space boasts high ceilings and a full wall of glass opening out to the well-manicured gardens – just breathtaking. A slick new bathroom complements the transformation. Another innovative feature are the large barn-like doors, which slide open from the new garage back towards the house and courtyard. This dramatically increases the entertaining space when the occasion calls for it.
